Carolina Container Selects UniPrint
Future-Proofs Printing Functionality and Improves Security with Secure Pull Printing Solution
UniPrint (www.uniprint.net), the leader in printing virtualization, today announced that Carolina Container has selected UniPrint Infinity, the industry’s first printer-vendor independent managed print solution for any computing environment, as its enterprise-wide managed print solution. Based on UniPrint’s patented PDF-based Universal Printer Driver and powered by its Virtual Print Infrastructure, UniPrint Infinity solves Carolina Container’s printer driver incompatibility issues and helps the company reduce costs by providing a secure, fully virtualized printing environment for its largely remote employee base.
Carolina Container designs and manufactures quality corrugated packaging for customers across the southeastern United States. The company’s unique IT infrastructure includes seven centrally located Windows terminal servers and nearly 30 other servers most of which are virtualized with VMware vSphere® to provision various applications, including printing. The heterogeneous environment is comprised of 400 users with shared access to 150 network printers of various makes and models in 15 different locations. 70% of Carolina Container’s users are on thin-client devices and the rest are using Windows desktops, Mac computers, laptops and mobile devices.
The company chose UniPrint Infinity to give employees an anywhere, anytime, any device solution to print bar codes, quotes, invoices and project data with special font embedding directly from their e-mail programs to any printer. Converting print jobs to PDF, UniPrint gives users the option to print, e-mail as an attachment or archive the documents in one simple step, significantly lowering costs, saving time and optimizing bandwidth.
JC Coleman, Network Administrator at Carolina Container, says, “UniPrint has been very much focused on customer service and product innovation since we started working with them. They have met each of our specific challenges and worked with our IT department to create a printing solution that would scale with us as we grow and support our increasingly mobile workforce. We have also been among the first to beta test new UniPrint products in development including the UniPrint vPad for mobile devices. They are the only company I have ever worked with that when I need them to do something, they will get it done without delay.”
Sheryl Sage, director, Alliance Programs at VMware, says, “As organizations of all sizes realize the benefits of virtualization, partners like UniPrint are an important part of our strategy in educating current and potential customers on how they can harness the benefits of virtualized printing – including centralized management and reduced administration. Carolina Container is an example of how UniPrint and VMware technology can be integrated to simplify a company’s printing needs, help them reduce costs and eliminate printer driver incompatibility issues.”
A UniPrint customer for over six years, Carolina Container worked with UniPrint to develop a highly flexible implementation of its Infinity product. Carolina Container now has a complete managed print solution that simplifies printer management and enables anywhere, anytime, any device secure pull printing across different platforms and offices. UniPrint Infinity’s PrintPAL utility solved Carolina Container’s location-based printing challenges by facilitating the centralized management of printer assignments per department and per user. It also minimizes lengthy installation and certification processes when new clients and printing devices are added to the network and the truly universal, PDF-based printer driver negates the need to install multiple manufacturer printer drivers on every PC and server and eliminates incompatibility issues.
“The evolution of technology is constant, and we believe our product should follow the same course,” said Arron Fu, VP of Software Development at UniPrint. “When Carolina Container presented us with additional requests to adapt our technology to suit their specific needs, we took on the challenge of increasing our capabilities and providing our customer with a printing solution that was a perfect match for their needs. UniPrint Infinity provided a cost effective solution for Carolina Container’s printing challenges that enabled efficient printing for both remote and local operations. We look forward to growing with them in the future.”
